travel the voyage of self discovery

Lake Malawi

Time spent in malawi was at various locations by the lakethe clear waters spread for around 500 km.It was very easy to forget that it was a lake when it feels more like an ocean, there were waves at some locations that were even surfable. Its took me a long time to go anywhere near the waters ( including the fresh water showers) as a few in the group had scared the living days out of me. The fear stemmed from Schistosomiasis (bilharzia) is a type of infection caused by parasites that lived in the lake. The worst thing that happened was that a few of the group had worms lay their eggs in their feet , most likely from the showers. I still think that wet wipes are the best invention ever and so were my braids.

Waking up to the sound of waves lapping up on the shoreline , days were spent relaxing or making our own entertainment such as the beach side olympics. There was only one little problem , a lack of food. Being a couple of weeks after 9/11 many locals resented us and would refuse to sell us goods.Pilchards with sauce on stale bread had never tasted so good.

The evenings were spent partying some more. One night a camp owner took pity on us and supplied us with unlimited beer and another unforgettable night was the bad taste night. The girls had to dress the guys and visa versa with clothes from a local market. Looking back at the pictures were could have been much more inventive with our outfits.
